Calvin Klein designer awarded
Creative director for the women’s Calvin Klein collection, Francisco Costa, has been named 2008 womenswear designer of the year by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).
Each year, CFDA presents the award to the American designer it believes has made the most outstanding contribution to, and has influenced the direction of, women's ready-to-wear fashion with his or her most recent spring and autumn collections. Other nominees included Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler's Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough.
Actress Eva Mendes, dressed in Calvin Klein apparel, presented Mr Costa with the award alongside Maggie Gyllenhaal and Victoria Beckham.
Mr Costa received the same award in 2006 and has received two awards this year: the Spirit of Design Award at the Philadelphia University Fashion Show and the Mortimer C. Ritter Award.
