Japanese swimmers may wear Speedo at Olympics
According to reports, the rule banning Japanese swimmers from wearing suits made by non-Japanese manufacturers has been lifted, leaving them at liberty to wear the new Speedo LZR Racer should they wish to do so.
Mizuno, Asics and Descente recently launched new swimsuits to rival the Speedo suit and presented these to the Japan Swimming Federation. However, the federation claims to have made the decision to allow swimmers to wear the Speedo suit after appeals from various swim coaches and athletes. Kosuke Kitajima set a world record while wearing the LZR Racer in the men's 200 metre breaststroke at the Japan Open, held June 14-15. In total, 16 national records were broken by swimmers wearing the suit at the event.
