Ten Cate has high hopes for technical textiles

Netherlands-based Royal TenCate believes its recently acquired inkjet technology unit Xennia Technology will experience significant growth in the near future. It bought 75% of the company’s shares in January in order to increase the use of inkjet technology to produce technical textiles.

"Inkjet technology has the potential to replace existing finishing and coating technologies and create new materials for the technical textiles sector," a company statement said.

"Inkjet technology has the potential to have a significant impact on profitability for the protective fabrics activities in particular, over the next five to seven years."

The company said the unit would give a limited positive contribution to results in 2008, but it believes the technology could eventually replace existing finishing and coating technologies and create new materials for the technical textiles sector.

"Market estimates inkjet printing of electronics will reach a level of approximately €3 billion in the next five years," the company said.
