Apex Textiles buys WM Lawrence

01/07/2008
UK-based Apex Textiles has acquired Chorley-based WM Lawrence & Sons. WM Lawrence is the fourth textile business to be acquired by the Apex group, following the 2007 purchases of Stead McAlpin, JH Birtwistle and the 2008 purchase of Schofield Dyers & Finishers. The firm is a synthetic yarn processor specialising in twisting, warping and weaving.

The acquisition will be made through Apex’s weaving subsidiary, JH Birtwistle and Company Limited. WM Lawrence will move all its plant and machinery from Chorley to JH Birtwistle’s premises in Haslingden. However, despite becoming part of the Apex portfolio, it will continue to operate independently, retaining its identity, maintaining current working practices and its own workforce, customer base and supply chain. Current managing director, Peter Heaton, will widen his remit to lead operations at both WM Lawrence and JH Birtwistle.
