OutDoor focuses on lightweightness and functionality

More than 150 brands will make world and European debuts at OutDoor, held July 17-20 in Friedrichshafen, Germany. A total of 787 exhibitors from 40 countries will present outdoor solutions at the event, and the emphasis will be on lightweightness, durability, breathability, freedom of movement, comfort and safety.

Lightweight will include the Pak II ultralight set from Fjällräven, which weighs just 2.1 kilos (4.6 lbs). It consists of a breathable shirt, body warmer, windbreaker, raincoat, a 30-litre rucksack and a tent. Others include the Orbit LED Lantern from Black Diamond Equipment, which provides an 84 gram (3 ounce) all-around source of light out on the trail; the NeoAir pad from Therm-a-Rest, a 410 gram (0.9 lbs) mattress that offers 6.3 cm (2.5 inches) of comfort for sleeping and advanced insulation.

Other innovations will include: Mammut’s ‘urban climbing line featuring the Obelisk DLX shoe, which is specially designed for scaling walls and facades; Fazinatour’s Smart-Belay automatic safety system; and Wild Country’s Alpine Shield Helmet.
