Champions’ clothing on show

05/08/2008

As a celebration of the start of the Beijing Olympics on August 8, a museum in the textile manufacturing hub of Prato in Italy has prepared a special exhibition of clothing worn by sports champions down through the years.

The sports represented range from sailing to cycling, with kit worn by a long list of stars that includes Bjorn Borg (tennis), Paolo Bettini (cycling), Valentina Vezzali (athletics) and Reinhold Messner (mountaineering).

A second section of the exhibition shows examples of the most up-to-date performance textile ideas, such as materials that have advanced shape-recovery or temperature-control capability, and even improve the wearer’s blood-flow.
