Chemical company Dow Corning has brought to market a new finishing product, specifically for the textile market, that it says will allow manufacturers to offer greater comfort, increased wicking capabilities and a bettter environmental performance.

The new product, the OP-8800 Softener, is a hydrophilic softener that, Dow Corning says, has far fewer environment-harming volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in its composition compared to many of the finishing products manufacturers have had available to them up till now.

On announcing the new product,
Dow Corning’s technical leader in the Americas for textiles, Fernando Vázquez, said: “Recent market trends along the entire textile industry value chain,  especially in the home textiles and apparel markets,  have required that formulators develop ecologically sound,  safe,  high-performance,  multifunctional textile finishes. We believe the OP-8800 Softener is the perfect product to help formulators meet those needs.”
