The Chinese government is weighing up the possibility of investing in new textile factories in Sri Lanka, saying the country is ideal for the industry.

Sri Lanka's president, Mahinda Rajapaksa, visited Beijing on August 7 and held meetings with Chinese government ministers, including the minister for commerce, Chen Deming. During the meeting, Mr Chen said China was committed to starting several new projects in Sri Lanka before the end of this year, and mentioned that the textile industry was one of the sectors it was looking at.
