Achieve o2 combines Celliant and Dri-release in new socks
12/08/2008
Achieve o2, which manufactures specialist socks for the sports and healthcare markets, has announced a new development for its autumn 2008 collection.
The company announced at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market exhibition in Salt Lake City in August that it was preparing to release a sock with a new composition. As is usual for Achieve o2, the new sock will have a sole made from Celliant, a type of Holofiber formula for which Achieve o2 is the exclusive global distributor. The company says Celliant can “enhance the body’s ease and performance” by increasing oxygen levels in the wearer’s body by between 8% and 25%.
This can help regulate body temperature, increase energy, accelerate muscle recovery after exertion, and even help heal wounds and relieve pain (making socks in this fibre particularly suitable for people with diabetes, who are often susceptible to foot health difficulties).
What is different about the new sock is that, the sole aside, it will be made from Dri-release, Optimer’s patented blend of synthetic hydrophobic and natural hydrophilic fibres. Optimer argues that Dri-release’s ability to push moisture to the outside of any garment, rather than spreading it across the surface, allows it to release water and sweat “faster than any other performance fabric on the market”.
On announcing the new Achieve o2 socks, Optimer’s business development manager for the east coast of the US, Lee Thompson, said: “The combination not only adds up to an exceptional value in benefits for the consumer, it demonstrates both the flexibility of the Dri-release patent and the ability of brands to build unique performance products.”
