Dominican exports down

Dominican exports of textiles and apparel to the US market are falling, with official figures showing a 12.7% less in export volume and 25.5% less in value in the first quarter of 2008.

The
Dominican Republic exported 180.7 million square-meters of prepared textiles in the first quarter, with a value of $417.3 million.

Textiles is one of the most prominent industrial sectors to have formed part of the discussions involving the US and Caribbean and Central American countries in the build-up to the CAFTA free trade agreement.
