LZR lives up to expectations

The company behind the new LZR Racer swimsuit has announced that the product has lived up to expectations at the Beijing Olympics.

After the first week of competition, with some events still to take place, manufacturer Speedo said the swimsuit had been worn by athletes setting 19 of 21 new world records at the Games.

The suit, made from a proprietary fabric called LZR Pulse, has helped swimmers establish 67 new world records since its launch in February, Speedo said. LZR athletes to have featured prominently at the 2008 Olympics included Michael Phelps, who won six golds in the first week, with two chances to equal and beat the record of seven Olympic golds in one year, set by Mark Spitz at Munich in 1972.

The fabric Speedo has used is lightweight, powerful and water-repellent. The powerful compression  reduces muscle oscillation and  skin vibration. It's also extremely fast-drying, which reduces friction in the water.
