Textile museum receives online boost

The Textile Museum of Canada in Toronto is to receive almost half a million Canadian dollars in funding from the country’s federal government.
The money is for a specific project that the museum will add to its website to allow citizens from all parts of Canada to learn about and celebrate the role that the textile industry has made in the country’s history, and the contribution that Canada has made to the textile industry worldwide.
On announcing the decision, federal minister of finance, Jim Flaherty, said: “Canadians have made tremendous contributions to the arts, especially in the area of textiles, and now our rich culture and history will be proudly on display for all to see.”
The museum’s communications manager, Beth Sharpe, commented that the new project, called ‘In Touch: Connecting Cloth, Culture + Art’, would comprise audio and video material that explained the detail of more than 70 special exhibitions that the museum has put on in recent years.
