Swiss specialist chemicals provider Clariant has appointed Andy Piers head of group technology, effective September 1. He will also be a member of the board of management.

Mr Piers joins the company from Englefield Capital, a private equity firm, where he was working as an independent advisor. A British and Zambian citizen, he has a PhD in Chemistry and Engineering from the University of Dundee, Scotland. He worked at inorganic chemical producer Brunner Mond & Co Ltd, a division of ICI, and Union Camp Corporation, which became part of Arizona Chemical, in 1999. He has held several important management positions in R&D as well as commercial operations functions.
