New appointment at British Textile Technology Group

28/08/2008

Philip Hutchings from Manchester, UK, has been appointed as an operational head for British Textile Technology Group High Performance Materials (BTTG-HPM).

Mr Hutchings’ new role will involve managing a busy laboratory that tests a range of technical textiles.

"This is the most challenging role I have ever had - it's a very busy laboratory, conducting many specialised tests for customers and is incredibly demanding - but very rewarding," he said.

"One of my first tasks has been to set up 'Comfort Testing' equipment used for measuring thermal resistance and water vapour resistance of clothing fabrics. The results give an indication as to how comfortable clothing will be when the wearer is in an environment that causes sweating" he added.

With a background in chemical manufacturing and qualifications in both Chemistry and Textile Studies, Philip has been in the industry for almost 25 years. He started off conducting wet applications of chemicals to fabrics and flame retardant testing within a laboratory facility, progressing through being a technical service technician, working in a sales team and carrying out chemical trials on different types of fabric.
