Systex project brings five European countries together
Systex, an ICT project of the Seventh Framework Programme, is a new co-ordination effort between various industry, academic and government institutions in order to evaluate existing information and generate new interaction for the textile sector.
While intelligent textile systems are sponsored on a large scale in Europe, there is still a lack of structured co-ordination and interdisciplinary knowledge transfer. Systex is designed to collect technological and non-technological information on relevant projects and to classify them in a transparent data base and information system. Analysis of the available and ongoing research activities in e-textiles and wearable micro systems will be presented on an interactive website.
Project leader, Professor Lieva van Langenhove, said: “The objective of Systex is to create an extensive and detailed road map of current and possible future technological developments in e-textiles, to identify needs, breakthroughs and bottlenecks. We strongly believe that Systex will foster the consolidation and transnational dialogue between the micro/nano-systems and the textile community dealing with e-textiles and wearable micro-systems.”
The 12 Systex partners include: Ghent University, Department of Textiles; University of Pisa; Institut Français Textile et Habillement; and Ihofmann.
