Clothing and shoe sales rise in Hong Kong

Hong Kong’s Census and Statistics Department has released the latest retail sales figures for July.

The value of total retail sales for the month has been provisionally estimated at $24.2 billion, up 13.8% year-on-year, while the volume increased by 6.6%. The sectors contributing to sales growth include clothing (+5.4%) and footwear, allied products and other clothing accessories (+3.3%).

The revised estimate for June recorded total retail sales of $22.2 billion, an 11.7% rise compared with June 2007, while the volume rose 4.1%.

Total retail sales for the first seven months of 2008 increased 15.6% in value and 8.9% in volume compared with the same period last year.
