Schoeller reveals new fabric trends

08/09/2008

Switzerland-based functional textiles producer Schoeller has unveiled new trends for autumn-winter 2009-10. Traditional Scottish tartans, glen checks, herringbone and houndstooth will be used on the inner side of fabrics to reflect lasting values and voluminous fabrics will be used to produce round shapes. Dramatic structures will be important and various wool compositions will exude sophisticated naturalness combined with technical functions. Lacquer and leather-like looks will be accomplished with new PU coatings and sheen effects, metallic colours and reflecting fabrics will be a major feature.

Classic men’s suit fabrics containing fine worsted wool are coated or bonded to give wearers a smart look in the office as well as protection from light winds and rain. Its glamorous city fabrics use sparkling colours to play with light and shade, while deep dark colour contrasts convey a hint of luxury with a metallic, wet gloss. The look is enhanced by the c_change membrane, which offers wind and water repellency.

Polyamide/polyester qualities in ‘lacquer-like’ dimmed shades, golden rip-stop variants in butterfly colours and metal/cotton blended with precious silver threads make a strong statement. The day and night reflection look uses aluminium, silver, titanium and colours with frosted, lacquered metal effects. The reflective PU coating promotes safety during the day and night and day glow fabrics will make garments vibrant even during the day.

Coarse 3D structures are interwoven in the schoeller-spirit textiles to a rough second skin. Organic wool is blended with synthetic polyamide to produce a very technical effect, vaguely reminiscent of the coarse look of a car tire. Streamlined aesthetics are presented in the airily light white or black schoeller-spirit fabrics. The transparency of the cotton voile with spot-glued c_change climate membrane exudes a sensual charm, while brilliant polyamide fabrics with or without c_change offer a more synthetic appeal.
