Final selection for Pangaea Expedition

16/09/2008

The first selection camp for the YEP (Young Explorers Programme) started on September 15. The 10-day camp in Switzerland sees 12 young adults from across the world joining South African adventure-explorer Mike Horn and a team of professional and motivated people as part of the selection process for the Pangaea Expedition.

Eight young adults will be selected to become the first members of the YEP and in mid-October they will travel to Ushuaia, Argentina, on a two-week expedition. This will involve sailing on the polar exploration vessel, Pangaea, and exploring the Antarctic Peninsula.

The Pangaea Expedition is a four-year trans-navigation trip by sea and land. At the heart of the expedition is Pangaea, a 35-metre sailing vessel which has been purpose-built to navigate all oceans and conditions from the arctic to the tropics. It is equipped with cutting-edge communication and conference facilities. It will serve as a unique mobile platform to support environmental research and educational projects at its various ports of call around the world.
