The Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (FIDA) is to coordinate activities for the ‘International Year of the Fibres’ in 2009.

Activities will include: trade exhibits featuring the Philippine natural fibres and Silk, Piña and Abaca Festivals; conferences/summits/forums; an Abaca Week Celebration; a fashion show; an essay writing contest and poster making competition; a Gawad Hibla 2009 search; a fibre museum and documentaries; an attempt to set a world record for the longest twine or rope; an information caravan; and a furniture and home décor/unique fibre product design contest.
