Cotton production will not meet targets
Pakistan’s cotton production is expected to fall well short of its targets for 2008-09. Predictions from the Pakistan Cotton Ginners association (PCGA) show that production is likely to total 11.5 million bales compared with the 14.1 million bales.
Cotton production for 2007-08 totalled 11.7 million bales, again falling below the government target.
Production levels are not expected to rise unless quality seed production increases and water supply improves. Despite this, average cotton prices rose in August.
