Hohenstein looks at keeping flame-retardant effective

02/10/2008

Scientists from the Hohenstein Institutes in Bönnigheim, Germany, have issued details of some investigative work they have carried out in the field of flame-retardant textiles.

Specifically, they have looked into the possibilities of maintaining the protective effect of flame-retardant textiles for as many wear and care cycles as possible.

They have found that, depending on the type and quality of material used, the flame retardant-effect could be retained for over 50 processing cycles for a range of products.

They have also concluded that it should be possible to make flame-retardant clothing waterproof. The institute said it felt that, as providers of specialist waterproofing textile finishes would now be able to guarantee to clients that the flame-retardant effect will be retained, these new findings should be of great importance to textile service providers.
