New PPE conference announced for December

14/10/2008

On December 1 and 2, the Dutch Foundation for Engineering of Fibrous Smart Materials will host a conference aimed at “driving innovation and intelligent public procurement” of protective clothing and other equipment. The event will be called the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Conference 2008 and will take place in Hengelo in the Netherlands.

The organisers have said this will be the first conference of its kind. They argue that PPE is one of the key factors in assuring safety at work against a wide array of hazards and that inovation is important for improving comfort and performance of PPE products throughout their entire lifecycle. They point out that, as one of six lead markets identified by the European Commission, the PPE market (estimated to be worth around EUR 10 billion) offers significant growth potential for innovative products and services.

The conference will be opened  Maria van der Hoeven, minister of economic affairs of the Netherlands. Other key speakers will Dick Hendriks of Euratex (the non-profit trade organisation, dedicated to the promotion of the European textile and apparel industry), Robin Linschoten of the Dutch Social Economic Counci) and Jean-François Gribomont of specialist yarn supplier Promptex. The conference is supported by Euratex, the European Safety Federation, TenCate, Huntsman, Protex, Teijin Twaron and TNO.
