Childsplay gives Maru a boost

UK swimwear brand Maru has reported a 5% increase in sales for the year so far compared to its 2007 results. Its growing swim equipment division (offering hats, bags, goggles and so on) now accounts for a third of total turnover.
Company director Roger Allen said on announcing the results: “Maru was established 18 years ago primarily as an active swimwear manufacturer. Over the years we have diversified into various areas of swim equipment, from hats and bags to technical goggles and training fins. The swim equipment division has grown steadily, particularly over the past few years, to a point where it is now more than a third of our total turnover. This growth has more than outstripped our target and is very pleasing indeed. In fact, we envisage this division increasing even further over the next year, buoyed up by the latest addition to our equipment range – Flashing Dive Games.”
These are two new games for children, on which Maru has a world exclusive. The brand says they are already proving popular with trade customers and will be available to consumers from December 1. Manufactured in silicone and resembling hidden treasure in the form of coloured gem stones or gold coins, these new “sinkers” flash on and off for 30 seconds after being gently squeezed and can captivate children for hours, above or beneath the water.
