Fibre production to rise 5.7% a year
30/10/2008
World production of manufactured textile fibre (both from synthetic and cellulosic sources) is projected to rise 5.7% a year until 2012, taking global annual output to over 62 million tonnes, a new industry report published by the US-based Freedonia Group has said.
According to the study, entitled World Textile Fibres Market, one of the factors supporting overall growth will be "the continued replacement of natural fibres by cheaper, better performing man-made alternatives" in many market applications. Also boosting growth will be the rising level of personal income in both developed and developing countries, which will promote demand.

Polyester will continue to dominate manufactured fibre output. However, the fastest gains will be in specialty synthetic fibre production.
