Sharp fall for textile exports

According to Macau’s Statistics and Census Service, the country’s total exports fell 19.5% to MOP1.4 billion ($180.4 million) in September. For the January to September period, exports fell 13.9% year-on-year to MOP12.9 billion.

During the first nine months of the year, the value of textile and garment exports fell 22.4% year-on-year. Textile and garment exports accounted for just 58.5% of total exports. Exports of machinery and apparatus fell 48.5% and shoe exports fell 63.3%.

In the first nine months of 2008, the value of exports to the US, mainland China and the EU decreased by 11.6%, 37.8% and 50.9% respectively year-on-year, while exports to Hong Kong rose 22.6%.
