Jobs losses at AECI

06/11/2008

According to reports, South African chemicals company AECI Ltd has decided to close two of its Cape Town facilities, owned by its subsidiary SANS Fibres, having failed to find a suitable buyer. It is feared that around 640 staff will lose their jobs as a result of the closures, which are set to take place in late March.

The two facilities are currently producing nylon and PET, but increases in raw material prices and higher energy charges have caused profits to fall.
