MODSIMTEX project to change textile manufacturing

24/11/2008

According to the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona, a new €4.6 million ($5.8 million) scheme, the MODSIMTEX (Textile Modelling and Simulation) project, will transform the textile sector and help manufacturers of high-added-value products save millions of euros a year.

The UPC’s
Institute of Textile Research and Industrial Cooperation of Terrassa (INTEXTER) is leading the European research project, which will develop new technology to reduce raw material and energy costs and to save time.

A consortium of 12 European companies and research laboratories will design an intelligent system that can reduce the time and raw materials needed to set up the machinery in assembly lines for high-value-added products by 75%. The new system will be ready in just over three years.
