USA Swimming wants swimsuit regulations changed
President of USA Swimming, Jim Wood, is hoping swim association FINA will change aspects of its legislation governing swimsuit technology.
Current FINA guidelines stipulate that suits can: “Extend beyond the wrist and the neck”. However, Mr Wood believes this should be changed so that suits are not permitted to “cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor past the knee”.
Speedo’s LZR Racer has been at the centre of controversy since its launch and many have claimed it offers athletes an unfair advantage over swimmers that are not wearing the suit. As a result, Mr Wood is urging FINA to make the approved new suit available to all competitors 12 months prior to the Olympic Games.
