Cádiz turns its back on shirt idea
02/12/2008
Cádiz CF of Spain’s second division appears to have given up on its own shirt innovation and has signed a contract to wear apparel from Italian sports brand Diadora.
At the start of last season, Cádiz needed to find a new shirt supplier after its contract with Elche-based footwear and sportswear manufacturer Kelme to supply the club’s canary yellow tops expired. But instead of searching for a new money-spinning deal with one of the major brands, the way all football clubs try to do now, Cádiz decided to design its own kit and launch its own brand.
The brand-name was 1910, the year the club was formed, and the first shirt to come out under was made from fabric that had advanced moisture-management capabilities, anti-microbial treatment and UV protection built in.
However, the club announced at the end of November that it had signed a new deal with Diadora for the remainder of this season, and the next four. Diadora will make shirts specifically for the club, ready for delivery in February. Until then, the team will wear shirts from the Diadora catalogue.
