Woolgrowers sought for tour of China

A group of 20 New Zealand woolgrowers is being sought to accompany representatives of wool broker Elders Primary Wool on an educational tour of China in March next year.

The trading company has said that, because China is “essentially the heart of the world's textile industry”, with an interest in wool that has increased in recent months, there is high potential for New Zealand wool.

The 12-day tour will include visits to several of China's largest wool and textile mills including that of the country's largest wool garment manufacturers, Tony Wen of Tianyu.

The idea is that the knowledge gained by those on tour would flow back to their local farming communities and be of interest to the wider farming population, helping them produce wool that meets the specific demand of a large potential customer base in China.

The tour departs Auckland on March 28 and returns on April 8.
