Toray develops new antistatic yarn

06/01/2009

Toray Synthetic Textile Cluster has developed Super “Parel”, a polyester lining with high antistatic properties even under low-temperature, low-humidity conditions where static electricity is often prevalent.

Existing antistatic materials, though effective at 20
ºC with a relative humidity of 40%—the standard set by Japan Industrial Standards—generally do not display antistatic properties at much lower temperatures and humidity levels. However, according to the company, Super “Parel” maintains a high level of antistatic qualities even under the much harsher conditions of 10ºC and relative humidity of 10%.

The company expects to sell three million metres of Super “Parel” in the first year and six million metres per year in three years. Going forward, it plans to expand product development beyond lining applications into outer materials including sports and casual wear.
