Rehabilitation plan for Nepalese mills

07/01/2009

The textile and jute industry in Nepal is expected to receive a significant boost following a statement from the country’s finance ministry.

Reports indicate that the government is looking into reopening a number of defunct textile and jute mills.
Two of the mills that may be reopened are the Hetauda Textile Mill and the Biratnagar Jute Mill, which both closed because of lack of funding.

Reports claim the government has set aside approximately NPR300 million ($3.8 million) in order to reopen these and other units as a way of boosting employment and the economy.
