Australian merino on show at Seoul event
Australian fashion labels Sabatini, Kirrily Johnston and Gina Kim are hoping to help Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) and Austrade grow the Korean market for Australian Merino wool.
The labels will participate in a special event in Seoul under the theme 'Colours of Australia' to celebrate Australia Day, which falls on January 26.
A mix of 100pc and wool-rich garments will grace the catwalk at the event to demonstrate the aesthetic and functional attributes of Australian Merino wool fabrics. Celebrities from popular Korean television show Minyodul-e-suda (Global Talkshow) will model the Australian designer fashions.
Austrade's Seoul-based senior trade commissioner Martin Walsh said that in the past year, Korea has imported fashion apparel and accessories worth US$5 billion, making Korea an opportunity market for Australian fashion industry exporters. "Wool garments, in particular, are a specialty of Australian fashion and offer Korean consumers a uniquely different consumer choice," he said.
