AATCC to host textile conference
27/01/2009
The conference will feature three educational tracks including Concept 2 Consumer (textile design); Chemical Applications; and Materials (chemical-, polymer- and fibre-based textiles). It will also include an awards lunch where the association’s awards honouring achievement in textiles will be presented.
Topics for the Concept 2 Consumer track include global compliance and sustainability, colour systems and theory, and performance and innovation. It will explore how the textile industry can minimise its environmental footprint; look into sustainable products, processing and packaging; examine how quality control aids and technical expertise can facilitate the delivery of consistent quality merchandise; explore the impact of a retailer’s colour specification process on product development, manufacturing lead-time and product quality; examine colour curricula and training; and look into setting numerical approval colour tolerances.
Sessions in the Chemical Applications track include dyeing technology, flame retardant textiles and regulatory issues, and sustainability and environmental issues. It will feature presentations on advances in green chemistries and biosurfactants for textile processing, non-traditional flame-retardant finishes, managing risk in a changing regulatory environment, and assessing validity claims for bamboo fibres.
Biologically inspired fibrous materials, composites and personal protection are the focus of the sessions for the Materials Track. It will include presentations on the high-performance fibre properties and biocompatibility of spider silk, lunar wheel treads made from polymeric fabrics, innovative manufacturing and industrial applications for 3D woven and 3D braided fabrics composites, textile-based bio-sensor technologies for personal protection and performance attributes to textiles from activated carbon made from coconut shells.
Tabletop exhibits will feature CAD/CAM systems and software; colour management software, systems and solutions; auxiliaries, dyes and chemicals; and testing equipment and services for the apparel and textile wet processing industries.
