Restructuring and falling sales at Clariant

28/01/2009

Switzerland-based specialty chemicals company Clariant has posted sales of CHF8.1 billion ($7.1 billion) for 2008 down 5% compared with CHF8.5 billion in 2007.

It has also announced that more jobs will be cut; 1,000 jobs, mainly in the sales and administration field will be terminated. The company has experienced a significant decline in demand from customers in the textile, leather, automotive and construction sectors as global financial turbulence continues.

Clariant has written down the value of its textile and leather segments by $180 million.
