India’s textile mills appear likely to consume less domestically grown cotton this year compared to 2008.

Local media said estimates provided by cotton traders in Gujarat suggested domestic textile mills’ cotton consumption for the fiscal year, which ends in March, may range between 18.5 and 20 million bales.

Domestic mills consumed between 22 and 24 million bales of cotton during the previous financial year.
