New protective clothing project wins funding
05/02/2009
The UK's Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) has awarded a £250,000 grant for research and development to technical clothing specialist EC Contract Division for the delivery of a protective clothing system for ‘at risk’ workers against blunt trauma and ballistic impact damage.
Manchester-based EC Contract Division already has a proposed garment, with patents pending, in mind. It will consist of a flexible, lightweight, breathable muscle supporting material into which are inserted a number of strategically located trauma shields that will absorb high levels of impact force to prevent or minimise traumatic injury to the wearer.
NWDA believes that England’s Northwest could have the highest concentration of Advanced Flexible Materials (AFM) companies in the world, with excellent prospects for future growth.
