Cycle suits torn to shreds

The Great Britain cycle team that won eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics is confident the technical clothing that helped it triumph in China will still be state of the art at the next Summer Games, London 2012.

Little is known about the materials and construction that went into the team’s ‘skin suits’, which were designed by the team itself, assembled in Japan and endorsed by adidas. The team’s performance director, Dave Brailsford, wants to keep rival teams in the dark and has collected the entire set of suits from team members—without leaving even one as a souvenir—and shredded them.

Mr Brailsford said: “They have been shredded because we believe that the technology will hold well for 2012.”
