Art competition for Ellesse anniversary

09/02/2009

Italian sportswear brand
Ellesse is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary with the launch of a design competition that will see it collaborate with leading design partners on an international scale.

Set up in Perugia in 1959, Ellesse has made its half-tennis-ball logo, displayed on clothes worn by some of the world’s leading tennis and sports stars, famous.

Now, to mark its half-century, the brand is calling on artists to create an ambitious and thought-provoking piece of design, inspired by the sport of tennis and the brand's values of ‘La Dolce Vita’.

Ellesse is working with partners including The London College of Fashion and The Istituto Italia Design in Perugia to inspire entrants for the competition.

World-renowned illustrator and typographer, Si Scott has collaborated on the project and will judge the winning entries alongside key designers and directors from Ellesse and its parent company, Pentland Group.

The prize is $6,000 and the work will be showcased at Ellesse's fiftieth anniversary event, which will take place later in the year in Perugia.

There will be different categories including fashion and textiles, fine art, sculpture, street art, graphics and digital art.
