Conservation success at ispo

12/02/2009

This year’s ispo was successful for the ever-expanding European Outdoor Group Association for Conservation.
Three new companies (W.L. Gore, Lowe Alpine UK and Timex) became members, showing that despite the current economic climate, the outdoor industry is increasingly aware of the need to look after the environment it operates and plays in.

In addition to this, hundreds of euros for vital conservation work were raised during the Scandinavian Outdoor Group (SOG)and ispo Outdoor Party. SOG provided a fantastic prize for a draw which took place during the party. The prize included flights for two people with SAS (including CO2 compensation) to Kiruna in Swedish Lapland, 200km north of the Arctic Circle, with a stay with a family at a Sami Reindeer Herding Camp.

Ispo is also the time when the association’s board approves projects to be supported for the coming year. Manager of the association, Tanya Bascombe, commented: “This year has seen an increase in the number and diversity of projects submitted, covering every aspect of conservation from the preservation of areas of wilderness, waterways and endangered species to the rerouting of unstable Alpine pathways, and clean-up operations in the mountains.”

Members will vote to choose which projects will receive funding for 2009, with the announcement of the winning projects taking place during OutDoor in July.
