AATCC to give annual award to Steve Simonsen
13/02/2009
Not-for-profit industry association, the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC), is preparing to honour the world’s top textile scientists during its 2009 International Conference in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, from March 10-12.
A special awards luncheon will take place on the final day, during which Richard Stephen (Steve) Simonson will receive the Harold C. Chapin Award.
Mr Simonson is research and development manager for ITG Burlington WorldWide. A member of AATCC since 1975, the association says he has served with great distinction both in technical and administrative functions. He serves on the AATCC Board of Directors and on the board of the AATCC Foundation.
The Chapin Award was established in 1958 in honor of Harold C. Chapin, professor of chemistry at Lowell Textile School, who served as national secretary of AATCC for nearly 25 years. The award is presented each year to a senior member with at least 20 years' continuous membership in AATCC and who has contributed outstanding service in enabling the association to attain the objects for which it was founded.
