Online sales take a hit

16/02/2009

The last quarter of 2008 brought a drop in online sales in the US, the first time this has happened since retailers began moving parts of their sales efforts onto the internet at the start of the century.

Across all categories, US retail online commerce fell by 3% compared to the same period in 2007, according to a study conducted by an internet marketing research company.

Online sales for the entire year have increased by 6% to $130.1 billion. Video games, consoles and accessories are the retail e-commerce category with the highest growth rate, 29% up on 2007. Sport and fitness goods came second, registering a 25% growth rate.
