Numbers down, quality up at Texworld

The organisers of the Texworld exhibition in Paris, held on February 9–12, have defended the show’s performance in the light of a 15% drop in visitor numbers compared to last year.
The exhibition attracted 13,733 visitors this time, compared to 15,952 in September, and 16,340 in February last year.
Organisers, Messe Frankfurt, said Texworld was holding up well in the face of a difficult global economic situation because many exhibitions in the textile and apparel arena had experienced even sharper falls in visitor numbers since the start of the year.
Even so, event director, Michael Scherpe, said more than 70% of exhibitors had expressed satisfaction with the quality of visitors at the event this time, with many saying they were satisfied with their participation. He said: “The number of buyers with considerable buying power has more than doubled this time around.”
