DyStar facility wins testing approval
17/02/2009
Texanlab Laboratories in India, a member of the DyStar Group, has been approved by The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in the US to test for the presence of lead in children’s clothes.
Testing reports for lead content in paints and surface coatings are now mandatory for all children’s apparel exported to the US.
Texanlab was founded in 1973. It is today one of the largest independent textile testing institutes in Asia. Rahul Bhajekar, chief operations officer said on announcing CPSC approval: “We can now be an even stronger partner for US retailers, brands and textile processors. We help them to keep harmful chemicals out of the textile supply chain and to make garments safe for people.”
From February 10, 2009, consumer products intended for children 12 and under, including clothing, cannot have more than 600 parts per million of lead in any accessible part. This new safety requirement is a key component of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) aimed at further reducing children’s exposure to lead.
There will be a detailed feature about this subject in a forthcoming issue of WSA magazine.
