Theme and speakers announced for Innov_ex 09
19/02/2009
The seventh annual Innovation for Extremes conference (Innov_ex 09) will take place on Wednesday, 6 May at Lancaster University Management School in the north of England.
The theme for the conference this year will be a topical one, 'Eco-innovation in the context of recession', and the main sponsor will be the Outdoor Industries Association.
Organisers Mike Parsons and Mary Rose, from the university's Institute for Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development have said that the pressing need for transparency on green issues and the urgency of moving to sustainable product development will drive discussions on the day.
In keeping with this theme, Innov_ex 09 will have presentations on the bluesign standard (which seeks to encourage best practice in environmental protection and health and safety in the textile supply chain), carbon footprints, cradle to cradle design in footwear, arguments over cotton versus synthetics in fabrics, and rapid manufacturing.
Speakers will include Detlef Fischer, vice-president of Bluesign Technologies Robert Lomax of Baxenden Chemicals, Mike Redwood, technical director of the Leather Futures Research Group at the University of Northampton, and Mike Berners-Lee of Small World Consulting.
