19/02/2009
Swimwear brand Speedo has been shortlisted in four categories of the UK's Sport Industry Awards this
year, an event described by newspapers such as The Observer and The Times as the 'sports industry Oscars' there.
Most of the categories, of which there are 12 in all, are commercially focused. Speedo is in with a chance of winning sports brand of the year, best use of public relations in a sports campaign (for the LZR Racer suit), the technological innovation in pport award (once again for the Speedo LZR Racer suit), and the best sponsorship of a sport event or competition (for the ninth FINA World Swimming Championships-25 metres, which took place in Manchester in April 2008).
Dave Robinson, global president of Speedo commented: "Last year was an amazing year for Speedo, with groundbreaking developments and achievements accomplished by the brand and swimmers alike. Launching the
LZR Racer- the world’s fastest swimsuit, together with the Beijing Olympics and the 9th FINA Swimming Championships made for an outstanding year. It is fantastic to top off the year by being shortlisted for four prestigious Sport Industry Awards."
Another technology to have featured on sportstextiles.com and in WSA magazine, the ion-mask plasma treatment for water repellency that has gone into Hi-Tec shoes, has also made the shortlist in the technological innovation category.
The awards ceremony will take place in London on April 30.
