The Buff Thermo Cool Team won the Huairasinchi adventure race in Ecuador, which took place February 21-23. The team covered 332 km in less than 48 hours to take first place.

The race starts in Tungurahua and passes through Chimborazo and Bolívar, finally ending at “Los Ríos”. The competition involved orienteering, mountain biking, trekking, paddling and fixed ropes. Trekking accounted for around 97 km, while mountain biking accounted for 205 km, ropes accounted for 0.3 km and paddling for 30 km. Thirty-two national teams and eight international teams participated.

Team members Benjamin Midena, Shane Sigle, Nerea Martínez and Fran Costoya faced extreme challenges including altitudes of more than 4,400 metres, extremely cold and wet weather conditions, snow in high mountain passes and hot and humid weather in the lower regions.

The team said: “The changes in the temperature and altitudes during the race were extreme but we are very happy that we were able to manage it and keep our energies until the end of the race. We fell in love with the country and the nature and would like to come again for rafting, kayak, trekking without having the time pressure.”

Advansa and Buff have sponsored the team for three years. With the new collection of Thermo Cool, the team was equipped with multifunctional garments. When the wearer is hot and perspiring, the fabric provides evaporative cooling, keeping the user cool and comfortable. When the user is cold and shivering, the fabric reduces the exposure impact with external temperatures, keeping the user warm and thermo-regulated.
