Armstrong in Tour de France art initiative

The Emmanuel Perrotin Gallery in Paris is preparing to host an unusual art exhibition to coincide with this summer’s Tour de France.

Nike and record seven-time winning cyclist, Lance Armstrong, have teamed up to launch the art exhibition, which will have the name ‘Stages’, works from which will go on sale  to support the Lance Armstrong Foundation cancer campaign. Twenty-two artists have agreed to take part.

Lance Armstrong survived testicular cancer, a germ cell tumor that metastasised to his brain and lungs, in 1996. He retired from racing at the end of the 2005 Tour de France, but returned to road-racing at the start of 2009. He is rumoured to be considering making a Tour de France comeback this year.

The exhibition will later travel to New York, Portland, Oregon and Los Angeles.

On announcing the ‘Stages’ initiative, Lance Armstrong said: “This year it’s about more than winning the race. It’s about people coming together to use our talents and abilities for a cause bigger than ourselves and doing everything within our power to help those in their fight to overcome cancer. This endeavour will help raise awareness and much needed funds for the foundation and those who need it most, researchers, patients, and their families.”
