Turkey in talks

India’s commerce ministry has accused Turkey of taking protectionist measures over imports of cotton yarn.

India claims that Turkey imposed safeguard duties on cotton yarn imports last July and cotton yarn exporters there have demanded that the government take up the issue with the World Trade Organisation.

The commerce ministry says it has already initiated bilateral consultations with Turkey but the indications coming out of India are that it might take retaliatory steps like increasing import duties on products from Turkey.
