Sharp decline for Bursa textile exports
According to reports, textile exports from Bursa, in the north west of Turkey, fell by almost 30% year-on-year in the first two months of the year. Meanwhile, apparel exports from the region dropped by 34.6%.
Textile exports totalled $133.7 million in the two-month period compared with $186.2 million in the same period last year. Apparel exports dropped to $70.8 million from $108.3 million in January-February 2008.
Germany was the top export destination, accounting for exports worth $34.8 million. Other major importers of textiles from Bursa included Russia, Iran, the UK and Belgium.
